How to convert JFIF to JPG
- Drop your .jfif files into the box above, or click it and select them.
- JPG is already selected as the output. Quality is preset to 95%.
- Download the JPG files. They already end in .jpg, so there is nothing to rename.
What is a JFIF file?
JFIF (JPEG File Interchange Format) is simply a JPEG image. The picture inside is identical to a .jpg; only the file extension differs. Windows sometimes saves images downloaded from Chrome or Edge as .jfif because of a registry setting, and many websites, editors and print shops do not recognize that extension.
Converting writes a fresh file with the familiar .jpg extension, so it opens and uploads everywhere.
Stop Windows from saving JFIF
- The cause is a registry value: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\MIME\Database\Content Type\image/jpeg has an "Extension" entry set to .jfif. Setting it to .jpg makes browsers save JPG again (back up the registry first).
- If you would rather not touch the registry, choose "Save as type: All files" and type a name ending in .jpg when you save.
- Or keep saving as JFIF and convert a batch here when you need them.
Need PNG instead?
Switch the output to PNG for a lossless copy, for example if you want to edit the image further without adding JPG compression.
Frequently asked questions
Can I just rename .jfif to .jpg?
Usually yes, because the content is already JPEG. Converting is useful when you have many files, when renaming is blocked on your device, or when you also want to resize or compress them.
Does converting JFIF to JPG lose quality?
At the 95% preset the difference is invisible. Choose PNG output if you need a lossless copy.
Does it work on Mac and phones?
Yes. It runs in any modern browser on Windows, Mac, iPhone, Android and Chromebook.
Are my photos uploaded anywhere?
No. Pixverter processes every image inside your browser, on your own device. Nothing is sent to a server, so it is safe for personal photos and documents.
