How to compress image to 20 KB
- Check the target size (20 KB is already set; change it if your form needs something else).
- Drop your photo into the box above, or click to select it.
- Download the result. The new size is shown next to the file with a ✓ when it is under 20 KB.
Where a 20 KB limit is common
A 20 KB cap is typical for signature and photo uploads on government, exam and job application forms, which often cap files at 20 KB. Phone photos are usually 2–5 MB, so they need to be shrunk significantly before they are accepted.
How the automatic compression works
Pixverter tries progressively lower JPG quality settings and picks the highest one that still fits the target. Only if that is not enough does it reduce the pixel dimensions, because a slightly smaller photo looks much better than a heavily compressed one.
For very small targets like 20 KB, the image will be scaled down to a few hundred pixels wide. That is normal and is exactly what forms with this limit expect: passport-style photos and signatures don't need more.
Tips
- Crop away unnecessary background first: fewer pixels means more quality for the same size.
- If a form also specifies dimensions (for example 600×600 px), enter them as max width and height.
- Choose WebP output if the site accepts it; it reaches the same size with better quality.
Frequently asked questions
Can every image be compressed to 20 KB?
Almost always. If the photo is extremely detailed, Pixverter reduces its dimensions until it fits; you will see a ✓ when the file is under 20 KB.
Are my photos uploaded anywhere?
No. Pixverter processes every image inside your browser, on your own device. Nothing is sent to a server, so it is safe for personal photos and documents.
Which format does it produce?
JPG by default, because every form accepts it. You can switch to WebP or PNG; PNG is lossless, so only the dimensions can be reduced.
Can I compress several photos to the same size?
Yes. Each image is compressed to the target separately. Free handles 5 at a time; Pro is unlimited.
