How to make your baby passport photo at home
- Ask someone to take a photo of you facing the camera, head and shoulders visible, in even light.
- Pick your country and document, then drop the photo into the box above.
- Download the digital photo, or the 4×6 print sheet with Pro.
How to photograph a baby for a passport
- Lay the baby on their back on a plain white sheet or towel; the floor is safer than a bed. Take the photo from directly above.
- Or sit the baby in a car seat covered with a white sheet, so no straps or patterns show.
- Use daylight from a window, no flash. Make sure there are no shadows from you or the car seat.
- Take many shots in a row: you only need one where the eyes are open and looking at the camera.
What the rules allow for infants
These are the US State Department rules for children's passport photos; other countries have similar but not identical rules.
- A newborn's eyes do not have to be fully open, and an exactly neutral expression is not required.
- Your hand must not be visible holding the baby's head.
- The head size rules still apply; Pixverter scales the head to fit 1 to 1⅜ inches automatically.
Frequently asked questions
Are my photos uploaded?
No. The AI model runs inside your browser, on your own device. Your photos are never sent to a server, which makes Pixverter safe for personal and confidential images.
Does my baby need a passport photo for a passport?
Yes. Every US passport applicant needs a photo, including newborns. Children under 16 must renew with a new photo every 5 years.
The background removal cut part of the blanket. Is that a problem?
The final photo is placed on plain white, so leftover blanket edges disappear. If a toy or hand is visible, retake the photo.
How do I print it?
Download the 4×6 in print sheet (Pro) and print it as a standard 4×6 photo at any pharmacy or photo lab, then cut along the guides. Printing at "actual size" keeps the exact measurements.
