The short answer
HEIC stores photos at roughly half the size of JPG with similar visual quality, which is why iPhones use it. JPG is far more compatible: every device, app and website supports it. Keep HEIC for storage on Apple devices and convert to JPG whenever you share, upload or edit outside Apple's ecosystem.

- You only use Apple devices and want to save storage.

Frequently asked questions
Is HEIC better quality than JPG?
At the same file size, yes, HEIC holds more detail. At typical settings both look the same to the eye; the main difference is file size and compatibility.
Does converting HEIC to JPG lose quality?
Very little at 90% quality or higher: not visible in normal viewing. The JPG will be larger than the HEIC.
Are my photos uploaded anywhere?
No. Pixverter processes every image inside your browser, on your own device. Nothing is sent to a server, so it is safe for personal photos and documents.
